Lisa was offered an appointment to another church, but has decided to take some time off, and perhaps consider another pastoral appointment next year. The Rev. Dr. Paul C. Meyers has been appointed as Sr. Pastor of Roscoe United Methodist Church. Paul has been the pastor of Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Elgin for the past 12 years. While there he led the congregation through a merger, a significant period of growth and the construction of a new church building. Prior to Cornerstone, Paul served at Court Street UMC in Rockford, and at the UMC in Chana, IL. Prior to entering ministry, Paul worked as a “radio jockey” and sports announcer at WSQR radio in Sycamore, and as a private investigator. Paul is married to Kendra, who is a Pediatric/Neo-natal Physical Therapist at Rockford Health Systems. They have three children, Camille – 14, Katrina – 11 and Braden – 9.
The Rev. Mark J. Meyers (no relation) has been appointed as Associate Pastor with specific responsibilities at Hilltop. Mark is a PK (“pastor’s kid”) who grew up in parsonages around Northern Illinois. Mark primarily grew up in Rockford and Ottawa, where his dad was the pastor at Brooke Road United Methodist Church, Rockford and then First United Methodist Church, Ottawa. Mark graduated from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa with a degree in psychology. While in seminary, Mark served part-time as the pastor of Grace United Methodist Church in Maple Park, IL. Upon graduation from seminary, Mark had grown the Maple Park congregation to the point that they were able to support a full-time pastor, so Mark remained the pastor at Maple Park, but went to full-time. Roscoe/Hilltop will be his second appointment. Mark is engaged to be married to Jennifer. They have invited our congregation to join them at the wedding at Court Street United Methodist Church on May 15. Jennifer is a nurse at Delnor Hospital in Geneva, IL. Both Paul and Mark are excited to be coming to Roscoe/Hilltop. And the Staff Parish Committee is excited about the leadership they will provide. They will begin their duties with us on July 1. Please keep the church, Jay, Lisa, Paul and Mark in your prayers as we go through these transitions. |
