Pastoral Changes Announced for Roscoe and Hilltop
On Sunday, February 21, our Staff Parish Committee announced that our pastors, Jay Carr and Lisa Abb will be leaving as of June 30. Jay has been appointed to the United Methodist Church in New Lenox, IL – a growing suburb at the junction of I-355 and I-80. The New Lenox congregation has many similarities to Roscoe UMC, but the church and the community are both larger than Roscoe.

God's Economic In tough Times (3)
“Do not worry about tomorrow.” Mt 6:34 NKJV
To prosper in tough times: (1) Resist greed. “You shall not covet” (Ex 20:17 NIV). The drive to keep up with the Joneses enslaves us and stresses us out. Jesus identified the law of diminishing returns in coveting. “Be on your guard against…greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions” (Lk 12:15 NIV). The bottom line is: your selfworth cannot be built on your net worth, especially in this economy. John says: “These…desires…to buy everything that appeals to you…are not from God” (1Jn 2:16 TLB).

Alice In Wonderland
Review by:Frederica Mathewes-Green
This is not your grandmother's Alice. Though the title is the same, director Tim Burton did not film a new version of the classic novels by British clergyman and logician Lewis Carroll (1832-1898), Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass. Instead, Burton and screenwriter Linda Woolverton have moved the action forward 13 years. Now Alice, almost 20, is attending a garden party where the unappealing son of a local lord intends to propose marriage. Fleeing him, and pursuing a white rabbit, Alice kneels at the base of a tree and peers down an immense hole.
